01Christkindelsmärik
The oldest Christmas market in France
The Christkindelsmärik, the “Christ Child market”, has been held in Strasbourg since 1570. It is the oldest in France. Some 300 chalets are spread over about ten squares on the Grande Île, and entry is free.
It draws nearly two million visitors every year. On market evenings, the centre is much easier to cross on foot than by tram or car.
2026 dates: as of 26 September 2026, the city has not yet published them. For reference, the 2025 market ran from 26 November to 24 December. The official dates will appear on noel.strasbourg.eu, and we will add them here as soon as they are announced.

02All on foot
The chalets a few minutes from the door
The Moulin is on the Grande Île, in the heart of Petite France. From the door, allow about 2 minutes on foot to place Benjamin Zix and the Maison des Tanneurs, 8 minutes on foot to place Kléber and its big Christmas tree, 10 minutes to place de la Cathédrale and 12 minutes to place Broglie.
Close enough to come back and warm up between outings, or to drop off your shopping before dinner.

03The right season
Winter, a good time to come
In December, the apartment’s two drawbacks matter much less. There is no air conditioning, but you don’t need it. And with the windows closed, you hear little of the river or the club.
A guest who stayed in December put it like this: “with the window closed, the noise from the nightclub and the waterfall didn’t bother us”.

04Book
For December, plan early
December is the busiest month in Strasbourg, and apartments in the centre are often booked several months ahead. If you have the Christmas market in mind, write to us early.
