01Getting there
Ten minutes on foot
From the Moulin’s front door, Notre-Dame cathedral is about ten minutes on foot (800 m). The route crosses the historic centre: you leave the canals of Petite France for the shopping streets, and the spire comes into view at the end.
The Grande Île, with the cathedral at its heart, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988.

02The spire
142 metres high
The spire was completed in 1439. The cathedral then became the tallest building in the Christian world, and stayed so for more than two centuries. It is 142 metres high, according to the Fondation de l'Œuvre Notre-Dame, which has looked after the building since the Middle Ages.

03Inside
The tour
Begun in 1015, the cathedral was built over several centuries. Going into the building and climbing to the platform are two separate visits, with two separate entrances. The Foundation has put together the key figures.

04The platform
330 steps, 66 metres
The platform is 66 metres up, at the top of 330 steps. From there you can see the rooftops of Strasbourg as far as Petite France. Opening times and prices change with the season: check them before you go up.
